The U.S. Department of Agriculture is conducting a referendum for cranberry growers to consider an amendment that would allow the federal cranberry marketing order to receive voluntary contributions.
The marketing order regulates the handling of cranberries grown in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Oregon, Washington, and New York's Long Island, according to a news release.
The referendum among growers will be conducted from Jan. 23-Feb. 13. The amendment, based on a proposal made by the Cranberry Marketing Committee, would authorize the committee to receive monetary contributions from domestic sources. Under the amendment, funds from voluntary contributions would be used solely for research and development activities permitted under the order.
