Suntreat Packing & Shipping Co., Dinuba, Calif., has donated Sumo Citrus to New York City, the hotspot for COVID-19 cases and deaths in the U.S.

The company usually turns to Kern County, Calif., agencies to fulfill its mission of helping to alleviating hunger and provide food to those in need, according to Rick Johnston, executive vice president of sales and marketing for AC Foods, of which Suntreat is a division.

“With New York getting hit especially hard during the COVID 19 pandemic, we wanted to shift our focus to help another community greatly in need of support,” Johnston said.

Suntreat donated Sumo Citrus to City Harvest in New York.

“City Harvest focuses on providing healthy meals to children who are going without daily school lunches in addition to others in need within NYC,” Johnston said.

The Sumo Citrus was delivered in early April.
