Western Fresh expects big fig volume this season

Western Fresh Marketing will sell in excess of 5 million pounds of figs this year, said George Kragie, president of the Madera-based company.

Western Fresh Marketing will sell in excess of 5 million pounds of figs this year, said George Kragie, president of the Madera-based company.

In 2019, Kragie said Western Fresh expects to market non-irradiated fresh figs from Mexico.

“We want to be one of the first to be shipping non-irradiated figs, which will open up a lot of markets,” he said.

Kragie said many retailers won’t accept irradiated figs.
