Jordan Feek joined DLF International, Fort Pierce, Fla., as marketing director in September.

Daughter of company owner Doug Feek, Jordan Feek studied business administration and marketing at American University in Washington, D.C., and worked in sales operations and marketing afterward before joining the family company.

“They needed help in areas I had experience in,” she said about the newly created role.

The company is also designing a 25,000-square-foot cold storage facility on premises at the Fort Pierce headquarters to store valencia oranges.

Construction should start in the summer, and the goal is for the facility to be ready for use by December 2021, Doug Feek said.

“Right now, we’re renting cold storage space elsewhere. We prefer to keep it close to home,” he said.

In the 2019-20 Florida citrus season, DLF International installed a new E-pack bag machine, which uses about a third less material than a header bag and 60% less than a D-pack bag and is 100% recyclable, Doug Feek said.

“So, this year, we put in two more machines, and there will be a compostable material before season’s out,” he said.

DLF has partnered with Daumar, a Spanish packaging solutions company, to create this even more sustainable packaging.

“We’re following what we believe,” Feek said. “We believe we need to go to compostable, and that’s the direction this company is headed.”
