The Michigan Potato Industry Commission, Lansing, has donated $5,000 to the Food Bank Council of Michigan, to be used by food banks to purchase potatoes.
The donation is to help families during the COVID-19 crisis.
“During this unprecedented and unsettling time, it is of utmost importance that we continue to keep all of the residents of Michigan in our thoughts and prayers and to act in a way that displays compassion and caring for one another,” Kelly Turner, executive director of Michigan Potatoes, said in a news release.
The state’s food banks purchased more than four million pounds of Michigan potatoes in 2019, according to the release.
