The United Fresh Produce Association is seeking applications for 2020 Frieda Rapoport Caplan Family Business Scholarships.

The scholarship program offers representatives from family-owned United Fresh member companies the chance to attend the association’s Washington Conference. Although the show has gone digital because of the pandemic, the scholarship will still allow educational and networking opportunities for recipients.

“Our family is pleased to continue to support leadership opportunities for employees of family businesses,” Jackie Caplan Wiggins, vice president and chief operating officer of Frieda’s Inc., said in a news release. “My mother, Frieda Caplan, was passionate about giving individuals the opportunity for professional development particularly in the area of advocacy.”

Scholarship recipients will receive complimentary registration to the virtual conference on the United Fresh LIVE! platform Sept. 21-25.

“With the challenges faced by our industry this year, it is critically important for companies to learn about how to advocate and educate for their business at the federal level,” Wiggins said in the release.

Applications for the scholarship must be received by Aug. 21. Recipients will be determined based on the individual’s interest in advocacy and commitment to the produce industry.

“Thanks to the very generous support of the Caplan family, family businesses throughout the industry benefit from this exceptional leadership opportunity,” Miriam Wolk, United Fresh vice president, said in the release.

To apply, visit www.unitedfresh.org or contact Mary Alameda, industry relations manager at United Fresh, at malameda@unitedfresh.org or 202-303-3413.
