Enza Zaden recently debuted its Tribelli Seedless peppers, a mini conical sweet seedless pepper, in North America during the Canadian Produce Marketing Association Convention and Trade Show in Toronto.

The company’s product and sales representatives were at the event to showcase the addition to its premium mini pepper portfolio. Enza Zaden sees Tribelli Seedless as an opportunity to capitalize on consumers’ interest in convenience and flavor.

Adrian Garcia Scott, Enza Zaden’s marketing manager for the U.S. and Canada, says the company wants to position the Tribelli Seedless peppers as a quality pepper with taste benchmarks that are at the same level or even better than the rest of its pepper portfolio.

Developed from proprietary genetics, the Tribelli Seedless line was created in direct response to buyer and consumer feedback, according to Enza Zaden. The company expanded its seedless portfolio by establishing partnerships with established growers capable of meeting strict quality and production standards.

Seedless was an important trait, Garcia Scott says, noting that Enza Zaden looked at consumer preference in focus groups as the company worked on development of the line.

“Consumers are leaning more toward seedless peppers,” he says.

Garcia Scott says Tribelli Seedless will not only be a great option for snacking, but with its three colors of peppers, sweetness and crunch, it will also be a perfect addition to salads, grilled dishes and foodservice.

“As North American consumer habits shift increasingly toward grab-and-go products that are at once tasty, healthy and convenient, there is significant enthusiasm for the simple, ready-to-eat snacking experience of our seedless mini pepper varieties,” says Freek Knol, Enza Zaden’s commercial director for Canada.

The company says it will also highlight the nutritional benefits of colored peppers and plans to help educate consumers on adding peppers to a healthy diet.

“Peppers have more vitamin C than oranges, and it has anthocyanins because of its colors,” he says. “We have a lot of room to educate consumers on their benefits.”

Enza Zaden supplies its full line of mini peppers year-round by sourcing from a global network of growers utilizing both field and greenhouse methods. The company says the consistent supply is designed to help retailers maintain steady sales, backed by quality control standards that ensure uniform marketability.
