Taylor Farms recalls items containing onions linked to outbreak

Taylor Farms Texas, Dallas, has recalled seven products and the U.S. Department of Agriculture has issued a public health alert for six other items from the company because they all contain onions linked to a salmonella outbreak.

U.S. and Canadian agencies have identified red onions from Thomson International Inc., Bakersfield, Calif., as the likely source of 396 cases in the U.S. and 120 cases in Canada of Salmonella Newport.

Thomson International on Aug. 1 recalled all of its onions shipped since May 1, covering all red, yellow, white and sweet onions, shipped to all states to foodservice, retail and wholesale outlets.

No illnesses have been linked to Taylor Farms Texas products, according to the company’s recall, published on the Food and Drug Administration’s website on Aug. 6, and the USDA’s Aug. 5 alert.

Products in the FDA recall, according to news release, were produced July 30-Aug. 1:

  • Taylor Farms Macaroni Salad in 9.9-ounce containers, with a Universal Product Code of 030223015642, lot codes of TFD212 and TFD213 and use-by dates of Aug. 5 and Aug. 6, shipped to Louisiana and Texas;
  • Taylor Farms Rotini Pasta Salad in 10-ounce containers, with UPC of 030223002789, lot codes of TFD212 and TFD213 and use-by dates of Aug. 5 and Aug. 6, shipped to Louisiana and Texas;
  • Taylor Farms Chicken Salad Croissant Sandwich in 6.25-ounce containers with UPC of 03223028611 and lot codes of TFD212 and TFD213 and use-by dates of Aug. 3 and Aug. 4, shipped to Louisiana and Texas;
  • Marketside (Walmart) Diced Yellow Onion (3/8-inch) in 8-ounce trays, with UPC of 681131328739, lot code of TFD212 and use-by date of Aug. 11, shipped to Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Oklahoma and South Dakota;
  • Marketside Diced Mirepoix in 10-ounce trays with UPC of 681131276511 and lot code of TFD212 and use-by date of Aug. 10, shipped to Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Oklahoma and South Dakota;
  • Marketside Fajita Stir Fry in 8-ounce trays, with UPC of 681131093026 and lot code of TFD212 and use-by date of Aug. 10, shipped to Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Oklahoma and South Dakota; and
  • Taylor Farms Chicken Salad Croissant Sandwich, 6.25 ounces, with UPC of 030223110095 and lot codes of TFD212 and TFD213 and use-by dates of Aug. 4 and Aug. 5, shipped to Texas.

The USDA’s Food Safety Inspection Service, which oversees products that include meat, issued an alert about these Taylor Farms products that were produced July 30-31:

  • Walmart Sausage Breakfast Scramble Bowl, 7.25 ounces, with lot codes TFD212AU8 and TFD213AU8, and best-by dates of Aug. 6 and Aug. 7;
  • Taylor Farms Cheddar Cheese & Chicken Salad Snack Tray, distributed to Kroger stores, 6.5-ounces, with lot codes of TFD212AU7 and TFD213AU7, and use-by dates of Aug. 6 and Aug. 7;
  • Kroger Fresh Kitchen (deli) bulk chicken salad in 41.53-ounce bags, with lot codes of TFD212AU8 and TFD213AU8, and use-by dates of Aug. 4 and Aug. 5;
  • Walmart Chicken Salad Deli Snack in 10-ounce containers, with lot codes TFD212AU3 and TFD213AU3 with best-by dates of Aug. 6 and Aug. 7;
  • H-E-B Shake Rattle Bowl Southwest Salad with Chicken in 7.75-ounce containers with a lot code of lot code TFD213AU20 and best-by date of Aug. 10; and
  • Marketside (Walmart) Southwest Style Salad with Chicken in 17.25-ounce contains, with lot codes of TFD212AU26 or TFD213AU26 and best-by dates of Aug. 11 and Aug. 12.
