FreshEdge is sponsoring the United Fresh Produce Excellence in Foodservice Awards Program at the United Fresh Produce Association’s show next year.

The awards will be during the conference and expo, June 16-19 in San Diego, when the association honors retail produce managers and chefs. The award has been presented annually at the show since 2008, according to a United Fresh news release.

Bartlett, Ill.-based FreshEdge CEO Steve Grinstead said the program recognizes chefs and foodservice operations who exhibit creativity and ingenuity with fresh produce.

“Fresh produce plays an important role in menu development and delighting customers around the globe, and this award gives us the opportunity to recognize the best of the best,” Grinstead said in the release.

A call for nominations for the 2020 awards will go out in October.

The 2020 program has an added category for supermarkets and retail operators to recognize in-store restaurant concepts.

“More and more retailers are incorporating foodservice as a strategy to create a memorable experience for their customers,” Tom Stenzel, president and CEO of United Fresh, said in the release.

The other categories are:

  • Business in Industry;
  • Casual & Family Dining Restaurants;
  • Colleges & Universities;
  • Fine Dining Restaurants;
  • Hospitals & Healthcare;
  • Hotels & Resorts;
  • K-12 School Foodservice; and
  • Quick Service Restaurants.

Winners in each category, and the corporate purchasing executive at their company, will receive airfare, hotel accommodations and registration to the United Fresh show, according to the release.
