The Almond Board of California plans to highlight the day after the Super Bowl as a national holiday, partnering with football Hall of Famer Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders to promote the health benefits of eating almonds.

To kick off the offseason, California Almonds will send Sanders to Las Vegas, home of this year’s game, to declare the day after — Monday, Feb. 12 — as National Recover Day.

The Almond Board of California said it funded initial research — conducted among 64 U.S. adults ages 30-65 who are occasional exercisers — found that those who ate almonds daily experienced reduced fatigue and tension, better leg-back strength during recovery and decreased muscle damage during the first day of recovery.

“California Almonds and I are declaring the day after the Big Game ‘National Recover Day,’ so everyone can take their offseason to the next level,” Sanders said in a news release. “As soon as the clock stops, it’s time to get ready for the next game, which is why I recover with almonds. The grind doesn’t stop.”

The Almond Board of California said more information on recovery is available at almonds.com/own-your-prime.
