Fresh Express says it formed a foodservice division with the recent addition of McEntire Produce Inc., a fresh-cut processor, repacker and wholesaler that has supplied the foodservice industry since 1938.

The foodservice division will help Fresh Express establish a national foodservice offering, leveraging the expertise of Fresh Express in growing, harvesting, manufacturing, distribution and more, according to a news release.

“This will significantly enhance our offerings and services to foodservice customers and consumers through increased investments in innovation, efficiencies, and food safety, and we will undertake a seamless integration of the business’s strengths and employees,” said John Olivo, president of Fresh Express.

Fresh Express says it now has six plants across the country, as well as extensive grower networks and advanced supply chain capabilities. The companies will leverage McEntire Produce’s strong foodservice capabilities in its plan for growth, the release said.

The companies said they also will also use McEntire Produce’s Simple Clean wash system and Fresh Express’ radio-frequency identification-based food traceability to elevate food safety programs.

“For 85 years, McEntire Produce has been operating its produce business and distribution fleet in Columbia, S.C., serving the local community and customers in more than 20 states across the East Coast. I am excited to continue growing the business in my new capacity of vice president of foodservice reporting to John Olivo,” said Carter McEntire, president and CEO of McEntire Produce.

“We would like to especially extend our deepest appreciation to our dedicated employees for their valuable contribution over the years, which are the foundation on which we all have built this highly respected business,” he added.
