The idea worked the first time, so the Texas International Produce Association is bringing back the Viva Fresh Clean Eating Challenge.

The second annual health and wellness campaign began Oct. 1 and will continue to the 2021 Viva Fresh Expo March 26-27, at the Gaylord Texan in Dallas, according to a news release.

In the inaugural challenge, four industry professionals lost more than 160 pounds, reduced their necessary medications, lowered cholesterol and regulated blood sugar, according to the release.

Today, the mentees have become the mentors.

“… This is also what we want for our entire industry as we learn to value the power of fresh produce to change our health,” 2021 Viva Fresh chairwoman Michelle Cortez said in the release.

About 40 industry members between the ages of 30 and 67, from eight states and two Canadian provinces, have accepted the challenge for healthier living.

They’ve cited goals such as weight loss, better sleep, improved health, more energy, eliminating medications, better self-esteem and setting a good example for friends, family and peers.

Twelve of the 40 participants will be featured throughout the challenge, sharing progress in blogs and video-logs at vivacleaneating.com.

The website also features workouts, healthy eating tips and recipes.

The featured participants are:

  • Ashley Porter, H-E-B
  • Amy Sowder, The Packer
  • Blake LaGrange, Val Verde Vegetable Co.
