Washington potato growers vote to continue marketing order
Growers have overwhelming voted for continuation of the federal marketing order for Washington potatoes.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture said in a news release that 86% of the potato growers, representing 88% of the volume of those voting, approved continued regulation under the marketing order, which sets guidelines for grade, size, quality and other regulations.
The marketing order requires a vote every six years to determine if the program will continue. The favorable vote easily exceeded the minimum required support of two-thirds of those producers voting.
