HILLSBOROUGH, N.J. — The Eastern Produce Council’s 44th annual golf outing and awards luncheon drew about 110 players and even more participants for the hearty awards luncheon afterward at Royce Brook Golf Club on June 1.

Several attendees won raffle prizes such as Bose headphones, a flat-screen TV, a table torch, golf clubs and more at the luncheon.

Justin Chang, who accompanied a friend representing Elizabeth, N.J.-based Wakefern Food Corp., won a set of golf clubs, plus he earned the “closest to the pin” prize.

Teams made up of staff from different fresh produce companies proved the day was ripe for good golfing with a clear, warm, sunny morning on a 36-hole course.

The winning team, with a 15 under par 72 for a final score of 57, were from the produce brokers J.O.H., Glenside, Pa.: Chad Haney, Mort Haney, Ben Austin and Will Lancenese.

“We are very honored to be here. It’s a beautiful course,” Lancenese said after the group received the award.

Mort Hanley agreed: “A tournament like this is well-known. It’s in its 44th year. It’s great.”

After a summer break, the council’s next event is the fifth annual Joe DeLorenzo Family Apple Picking from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 21, at Melick’s Cider Mill & Orchard, 19 King St., Oldwick, N.J. Members can register here.
