Organics Unlimited GROW Month highlights worker initiatives

Organics Unlimited is celebrating its 13th annual Giving Resources and Opportunities to Workers (GROW) Month in September with a focus on social responsibility programs.

The San Diego-based grower-distributor of organic tropical fruit is linking retailers and media to tell consumers about the GROW programs, according to a news release. Since 2005, GROW organic banana purchases have provided more than $2 million in aid to grower communities, through retail and distributor support. The programs include sustainability, education and health care initiatives in Mexico and Ecuador.

A percentage of each box of GROW bananas purchased goes toward the initiatives.

“During GROW Month, we want consumers to connect with and really understand the meaning of making a major impact in the lives of the less fortunate,” Mayra Velazquez de León, president and CEO of Organics Unlimited, said in the release. “We want them to know that their GROW banana purchases are making a significant difference in communities around the world and recognize that they are helping to change peoples’ lives.”

Retailers and others are encouraged to raise GROW Month awareness in September through the #GROWmonth hashtag and Organics Unlimited’s social media platforms.

Organics Unlimited plans to promote the month with outdoor advertising in select cities, according to the release.
