Sykes Co. plans expansion of Palo Alto Organics

The Sykes Co., Rio Rico, Ariz., is marketing hard squash from Mexico under the Palo Alto Organics brand.

In partnership with its growers in Mexico, the company will be introducing new organic offerings under the brand, including butternut and spaghetti squash, in mid-November.

“Our organic squash will be available in all standard sizes and the quality is looking really good. We are proud to have diversified into this category that strongly resonates with consumer values,” Lesley Sykes, executive vice president, said in a news release.

The Sykes Co. has plans to expand its organic program in volume and varieties during Mexico’s spring season.

“We have been thoughtfully making investments in the Palo Alto brand over the last 35 years in tandem with our grower-partners,” Bill Sykes, owner and president, said in the release. “Getting into organics is yet another way to demonstrate the responsible growing practices that we represent.”

The company specializes in watermelon and hard squash and has been shipping from the Nogales area since 1978, according to the release.
