Carson, Calif.-based Carson Cold Storage & Packing said it has expanded its packing operations by adding new, fully automated packing lines for tropical fruit, citrus and onions.

The company said the onion packing lines opened up a new service offering for its Carson Cold business, with the ability to pack bags as well as bulk 40-pound cases.

The company’s 170,000-square-foot Carson Cold facility offers more than 7,000 pallet positions of storage, 20 separate temperature-controlled rooms, dry and ambient storage space to accommodate a variety of products, seven Giró bagging machines, full-service repack and reconditioning operations and an automated Compac sorting line for kiwi and citrus.

“We’ve always been on the forefront — asking how we can modernize, innovate and offer the best solutions to our customers,” Steve Karo, president of Carson Cold Storage & Packing, said in a news relelase. “Our latest investments in automation reflect our commitment to delivering superior service while meeting the evolving needs of the supply chain.”
