Sakata Seed America is raising awareness about the American Heart Association’s need for funds.

Company employees joined the American Heart Association Central Coast Heart & Stroke Walk on Oct. 20, according to a news release. The 5K walk raised more than $44,000. The company earned the designation as top team, top company and top fund-raising walker (Jamie Kitz).

On Oct. 3, seven Sakata Seed America campuses in the U.S. participated in a companywide Heart Walk, organized by Kitz, program manager for Sakata Gives, the company’s corporate giving program.

Through the two events, Sakata Seed America donated nearly $5,000 to the AHA.

“It is evident that the mission of the American Heart Association is a mission that is near and dear to the hearts of the Sakata family,” Kelly LaPorta, regional director for the AHA, said in the release. “Heart Walk is our premiere event for raising funds to save lives from heart disease and stroke and Sakata has fielded a team for the past six years.”
