Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association names president

The a nonprofit organization, which represents and promotes the state’s potato and vegetable growers, also announced a slate of other recently elected board members.

The board of directors of the Wisconsin Potato and Vegetable Growers Association says it has elected Charlie Mattek of J.W. Mattek & Sons in Deerbrook, Wis., as its president for 2024. Mattek succeeds Randy Fleishauer of Plover River Farms in Stevens Point, Wis.

The nonprofit organization, which represents and promotes the state’s potato and vegetable growers, also announced the following elections in a news release:

  • Vice president — John Bustamante, Wysocki Family of Companies in Bancroft, Wis.,
  • Secretary — Alex Okray, Okray Family Farms in Plover, Wis.
  • Treasurer — Wendy Dykstra, Alsum Farms and Produce in Friesland, Wis.

Along with Fleishauer, the association’s current board includes:

The organization’s associate division board reelected Matt Selenske from Allied Cooperative’s pest pros division in Adams, Wis., as its president. Ethan Olson of TH Agri-Chemicals of Plainfield, Wis., was elected vice president of the board.

The rest of the associate division directors for 2024 includes:

  • Melissa Heise, Swiderski Equipment in Mosinee, Wis.
  • Brady Patoka, Jay-Mar in Plover, Wis.
  • Treasurer — Paul Salm, BMO Harris Bank in Altoona, Wis.
  • Scott Scheer, Vista Financial Services in Appleton, Wis.
  • Secretary — Morgan Smolarek, McCain Foods USA in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.
  • Sally Surprise, C&D Professional Insurance Services in Waupaca, Wis.
  • Brandon Taylor, Exit Realty in Stevens Point, Wis.

The Wisconsin Seed Potato Improvement Association’s board of directors elected Jeff Suchon of Bushmans’ Riverside Ranch in Crivitz, Wis., as its president. Suchon succeeds Matt Mattek of J.W. Mattek & Sons in Deerbrook, Wis. The board also elected Charlie Husnick of Baginski Farms in Antigo, Wis., as vice president, and Mitch Mattek of J.W. Mattek & Sons as secretary and treasurer.

In addition to the three board officers, the other two directors of the WSPIA board are Andy Schroeder of Schroeder Brothers Farms in Antigo, Wis., and Clover Spacek of Eagle River Seed Farm in Eagle River, Wis.
