California ag department expands HLB quarantine boundary

The department added Newport Beach in Orange County to its statewide quarantine to prevent the spread of an invasive species and the disease.

The California Department of Food and Agriculture said it is expanding the huanglongbing, or citrus greening, boundary in the Newport Beach area of Orange County.

Huanglongbing, also known as HLB, is a devastating disease to citrus fruit, spread by the invasive Asian citrus psyllid.

This new boundary restricts the movement of citrus plants and materials from movement outside of the quarantine, according to the California Department of Food and Agriculture.
