Citrus import growth continues while exports stable in 2023

U.S. exports of citrus in from December 2022 through November 2023 were up 1% from the previous year, while U.S. imports of citrus in the same period were up 4%, according to USDA numbers.

U.S. exports of citrus in from December 2022 through November 2023 were up 1% from the previous year, while U.S. imports of citrus in the same period were up 4%, according to USDA numbers.

U.S. citrus exports for December 2022 through November 2023 totaled $773.5 million, up 1% from $768 million the previous season but down 16% from $921 million two years ago.

USDA numbers indicate U.S. citrus imports climbed to $1.89 billion in the period from December 2022 through November 2023, up 4% from a year ago and up 20% from two years ago.

Top U.S. export markets for citrus from December 2022 to November 2023 were:

  • Canada: $222.9 million.
  • South Korea: $179.2 million.
  • Japan: $111.4 million.
  • Mexico: $55 million.
  • Hong Kong: $52.9 million.
  • Australia: $29.7 million.
  • China: $27.9 million.
  • Taiwan: $14.6 million.

Top global suppliers of citrus to the U.S. from December 2022 through November 2023 were:

  • Mexico: $853.5 million.
  • Chile: $444.8 million.
  • Peru: $139.2 million.
  • South Africa: $131.1 million.
  • Morocco: $97.8 million.
  • Colombia: $71.8 million.
  • Argentina: $59.2 million.
  • Uruguay: $33.9 million.
  • Australia: $19.1 million.
  • Israel: $17.5 million.
