QDC Fresh Inc. has launched its exclusive Australian citrus program through an exclusive partnership with an Australian grower. The company says that through this partnership it will be first to the market with Australian cara cara and navel oranges into the United States.

The company says the first arrival is scheduled in mid-July.

“Retailers are constantly looking for opportunities to keep their citrus category fresh, exciting and well supplied throughout the year,” says Robert Peña, business and product development for QDC Fresh. “This exclusive partnership allows us to be first to market with premium Australian citrus, giving our customers access to exceptional fruit before anyone else. Combined with strong eating quality and dependable supply, this program creates a unique opportunity for retailers to differentiate their citrus set and generate excitement at shelf.”

QDC Fresh says Australian citrus delivers a flavor profile and sweetness comparable to premium California-grown citrus. The program’s cara cara and navel oranges boast high Brix levels, ranging from 13.5 to 15.

The program also features sweet, seedless mandarins and true blood oranges with deep red flesh and a sweet, berry-like flavor profile.

QDC says cool river nights drive dramatic diurnal temperature swings, which allow the fruit to develop high sugar levels while maintaining excellent acidity and balance.

This launch comes on the heels of QDC Fresh’s recent expansion into Los Angeles, where the company has added bagging capabilities to support a comprehensive citrus offering. QDC says it is the only Australian citrus importer in the U.S. with its own bagging machine. In addition to bulk fruit, the company will offer a branded bagged citrus program designed to help retailers capitalize on consumer demand and drive incremental sales.

“Our new bagged program adds another layer of value for retailers,” says Rachelle Schulken, director of marketing for QDC Fresh. “We’ve developed high-visibility packaging with vibrant artwork designed to stand out in the produce department and immediately capture shoppers’ attention. The combination of premium fruit, eye-catching packaging and an exclusive first-to-market offering creates a compelling program that helps retailers drive sales and elevate their citrus category throughout the summer, back-to-school and fall seasons.“
