Corona, Calif.-based Index Fresh is planning to handle several hundred containers of Peruvian avocados this year, says Dalila Rivera, vice president of sourcing.

The marketer anticipates strong volumes of conventional hass fruit through September, with peak volume in mid-July, she said.

“The timing of Peruvian avocado arrivals is slightly earlier this year and perfect for filling in a rare supply gap in Mexican fruit,” Rivera said. “The Peruvian harvest adds an important and competitive fruit source for our customers throughout the season.”

The marketer receives Peruvian avocados in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Houston and Miami ports in the U.S., Rivera said.

“Prior to the season start there was some discussion around potential Panama Canal closures or delays that would impact East Coast arrivals,” Rivera said. “So far this season, we have not experienced any logistical or labor challenges and plan for a smooth supply chain without disruption.”

She said that Index Fresh markets both bulk and bagged Peruvian avocados in its AvoTerra branded packaging, along with executing promotions with ProHass.

Index Fresh offers lugs, flats and value-added bag options, Rivera said.
