Georgia-Pacific’s Hummingbird offers print solutions

A digital printing process from Georgia-Pacific allows shippers to use full-color graphics on corrugated packaging, such as bins for watermelons and other large containers.

Georgia-Pacific is promoting its Hummingbird digital print solutions as a way for smaller packers with limited budgets to use colorful packaging to grab consumers’ attention.

Savco Worldwide, Mississauga, Ontario, started packing in corrugated cartons and bins through Hummingbird in 2018, according to a Georgia-Pacific news release. Savco has about 5,000 acres of production and a limited budget, and markets the H2O Melon brand.

Hummingbird offers “end-to-end solutions through their in-house creative graphics and digital print expertise, package design and manufacturing experience, and an extensive convertor network of GP-owned and independent converters,” according to the release.

An HP PageWide T1100 Web Press allows Georgia-Pacific to help shippers get products to market up to 80% faster than traditional printing and manufacturing methods, according to the release. It also eliminates the need for costly printing plates, according to the release.

“Digital printing is the perfect solution for a company like Savco,” Sergio Morales, general manager of Hummingbird, said in the release. “It gives them the ability to bring their innovative ideas to market and levels the playing field so they can compete with larger brokers and brands.”

Hummingbird worked with Savco to design and print bins for H20 Melon. It has been received extremely well by Savco’s club customers, according to the release.

“Our customers have been thrilled with the produce bins,” Sav Tsoukalas, Savco Worldwide founder who introduced the H20 Melon brand. “Thanks to the appeal of the bins, more of our product is on the store floor and it’s more visible to shoppers.”
