North Shore Living adds unique clamshells

North Shore Living Herbs+Greens, Thermal, Calif., is introducing a new design on its clamshells.

The products contain “root ball,” allowing them to have a shelf three times that of cut herbs, according to a news release.

Dubbed the “Root Lock Technology,” the new packaging:

  • Eliminates loose debris in the package with separate compartments for plans and roots;
  • Secures roots during transport, limiting damage;
  • Provides a watering “cavity,” making it easier for consumers to prolong life; and
  • Improves merchandising for retailers, with the root ball more visible.

“Put simply, the products we grow, pack and ship are truly unique because everything we deliver is quite literally still living with the roots connected for freshness,” Chris Wada, marketing manager, said in the release. “This means any changes – to packaging, for example – challenge us to create something entirely new. We believe this patent-pending Root Lock Technology helps illustrate that what we do is 100% rooted in providing every customer the freshest herbs and microgreens.”

The design will be used for the three clamshell sizes North Shore Living offers, starting with the regular clamshell in late November. For existing customers, there are no changes required, the new packaging fits in existing merchandising displays, according to the release.

The clamshells will be displayed at the New Product Showcase at PMA and at North Shore Living’s booth, No. 4163.

“While being original is important to us, listening to customer feedback is critical to any future success we hope to achieve,” Wada said in the release. “That is why we are quite pleased that this latest packaging innovation – developed exclusively for our clamshell line of fresh herbs, checks both of those boxes.”
