Stater Bros. donates $100K, 150,000 pounds of food this summer

Stater Bros., San Bernardino, Calif., has donated $100,000 and more than 150,000 pounds of fresh produce and other food to food banks in its area this summer.

Stater Bros., San Bernardino, Calif., has donated $100,000 and more than 150,000 pounds of fresh produce and other food to food banks in its area this summer.

The company’s programs to help food banks with reserves and alleviate child hunger through non-profit agencies include Harvesting Hope in Our Community, giving shoppers the opportunity to donate at all Stater Bros. locations, according to a news release.

“Stater Bros. has always believed in not just doing business in the community but being part of the community and we are proud to partner with our local food banks and local non-profit agencies to help feed our neighbors in need,” Nancy Negrette, chairwoman and president of Stater Bros. Charities.

Food donations, which included bags of apples, carrots and potatoes, and canned vegetables, went to:

  • Feeding America Riverside & San Bernardino
  • FIND Food Bank
  • San Diego County Food Bank
  • Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County

Monetary donations totaling $100,000 went to:

  • Community Action Partnership — Kern County
  • Desert Manna
  • Inland Empire United Way — Desert Communities
  • Inland Harvest Food Bank
  • Salvation Army Corps (Riverside, San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Kern and Ventura counties)

The summer donations are designed to feed children who do not have access to free or reduced-priced school meals, according to the release.
