SweeTango cracks top 10 in September sales volume
SweeTango continues to gain popularity, the only club variety to rank among the top 10 apples at retail in September.
Nielsen scan data show that SweeTango volume sales are up 9.3% and dollar sales are up 13.3% from 2016, according to a news release from marketing firm Fiction Tribe. The average retail price for the apple in September was $2.42 per pound.
The apple, which made its debut in 2010, has made significant gains in value and volume each season, according to the release.
Marketing desks report good movement, and two-pound pouch bags of SweeTango are currently available, according to the release.
The apple is sold by Wenatchee, Wash.-based Stemilt Growers, by Lake City, Minn.-based Pepin Heights Orchards, by Wolcott, N.Y.-based Fowler Farms, and by Nova Scotia-based Scotian Gold.
