Try purple for Thanksgiving this year

Frieda’s Specialty Produce suggests that retailers promote Stokes Purple sweet potatoes during the fall to help bring consumers into the produce department.

“Our retail partners say the best time of year to promote Stokes Purple sweet potatoes is the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving,” Alex Jackson Berkley, senior account manager for the Los Alamitos, Calif.-based company, said in a news release. “With sweet potatoes remaining a trendy and staple produce item, and shoppers looking to add color to the Thanksgiving table, Stokes Purple sweet potatoes will set out for the holiday.”

“Conventional Stokes Purple sweet potatoes can be merchandised with other sweet potatoes, and the organic ones can be in the organic section,” Berkley said.

Frieda’s suggests consumers add other purple vegetables to their holiday dinners to go along with the sweet potatoes such as: cauliflower, asparagus, baby potatoes and radicchio.
