For Zespri International, the Produce Marketing Association’s virtual Fresh Summit has been a great forum to push out merchandising information about the proprietary Zespri SunGold pack, Sarah Deaton said.

Deaton, marketing manager for North America for Zespri International, said the pack is made from 100% recycled materials. According to Zespri, the label was removed from the clamshell to allow for full recyclability, and the pack has an embossed logo that carries brand identification once a paper sleeve is removed by the consumer.

According to information at the virtual booth, the new package saved more than 40,000 pounds of plastic because of its new shape.

Deaton said Fresh Summit has allowed the company to celebrate the success of the Zespri SunGold, which she said has experienced a 54% increase in sales year-over-year.

“It’s great to see the kiwifruit category revitalized by SunGold, with SunGold outpacing total fruit sales by 44%,” she said. “Kiwi is definitely on trend and we are excited to partner with retailers to help them ride this amazing wave of success.”
