Grow-NY’s Food & Ag Summit, competition go virtual

Grow-NY’s Food & Ag Summit, which includes a pitch competition will be online Nov. 17-18.

The second-annual competition focuses on strengthening the food and agriculture innovation cluster within the Central New York, Finger Lakes and Southern Tier regions of New York state, according to a news release.

“COVID-19 has challenged all of us to stay on course towards our goals,” Jenn Smith, program director, said in the release. “We’ve taken it as an opportunity to practice our own innovation.”

This year, 264 startups and entrepreneurs applied for the first round of the competition.

The virtual summit will bring together 20 finalists to pitch their plans and answer questions in real-time in front of a panel of judges for a chance to win a combined total of $3 million in prize money.

Experts and industry partners will lead panel discussions both days, including:

  • Drafting a roadmap for emerging crops;
  • Mending the COVID-19 pandemic-fractured food system;
  • Changing climate, changing farms;
  • Food waste;
  • Launching innovative consumer packaged goods; and
  • Food and beverage startup resilience and adaptability.

Free registration for the summit is open on grow-ny.com; registration is also open for the awards ceremony scheduled for Nov. 23.
