Homegrown Organic Farms announces Mammoth Kiwi brand

Homegrown Organic Farms announced the addition of organic kiwis to their product offering in 2020 and today is excited to expand the program with a specific brand for the jumbo variety -- Mammoth Kiwi.

This new variety was developed in Greece and was brought to the US in 2010. Mammoth Kiwi is a special variety that is nearly 50% larger than the common Hayward variety and boasts exceptional nutritional value. It is the unlikely result of a naturally occurring genetic mutation (non-GMO) with the chance of viability of 2-million-to-1. Today they call it a “gift from the gods.”

Scott Mabs, Homegrown Organic Farms’ CEO said, “With the addition of the kiwis to our lineup last year, we knew we needed to call out and differentiate the unique qualities of Mammoth Kiwis and we believe the name and brand development will help achieve that. We wanted to bring a modern approach that would be visually appealing to shoppers and their kids and I think we’ve achieved that.”

Stephen Paul, Category Director for Homegrown Organic Farms said, “The Mammoth Kiwi is different. It’s larger than anything on the market today and has excellent nutritional elements. We are excited to be on the cutting edge of variety development in such a unique category.”

The farmer behind this new variety is Jerry Kliewer and his son Jerin. Together they grow peaches, plums, nectarines and kiwis, including this new Jumbo variety along with Hayward Kiwis and Gold Kiwis. The Kliewer’s have partnered with the Greek breeders of the variety and maintain the exclusive rights to the genetics in the US. Homegrown is excited to partner with the Kleiwers to bring this fantastic piece of fruit to their customer base and round out their one-stop-shop offering.

Initial offerings will include bulk, 1lb and 3lb clamshells. The company expects to begin shipping organic Mammoth Kiwis from Kingsburg, CA in November.
