Execulytics adds freight data to 2022 Produce Almanac

It’s common wisdom that understanding the past helps make better decisions for tomorrow, an axiom forming the foundation of the 2022 Produce Almanac.

Released by Mike Mauti, managing partner of Execulytics Consulting, this fourth edition contains the data, insight and predictions of the first three editions, plus five-year rate histories for key U.S. produce freight lanes.

This new feature uses the Produce Moneyball algorithm to predict weekly freight rates.

“If you’re using it to understand what you’re going to pay, not just for the product but for the logistics of the product, almost anywhere in the United States, you’re going to get a pretty good understanding of what your landed costs are going to be,” Mauti said. “You can get a step up on your competition by planning a little bit better in advance and really nailing down what the best plans and programs are going to be in that time frame.”

Listen to Mike Mauti discuss Toronto markets on the "Tip of the Iceberg" podcast, available on your favorite platform, such as Apple Podcasts.

Some of the key features include:

  • 52-week product cost and freight rate predictions for 2022 and 2023;
  • Five-year weekly cost and freight rate histories;
  • Organic premium costs relative to conventional produce;
  • Year-over-year retail prices by week;
  • Over 1,000 colorful graphs and charts;
  • Sourcing details; and
  • Tips to drive sales and consumption.

With logistics costs being among the hot button issues for 2021, the Produce Almanac has responded by including weekly rate histories spanning five years for big U.S. market destinations on loads originating in California, Texas and Florida. The Produce Moneyball algorithm then determines 52 weekly projections for each of the 18 focus freight lanes.

Execulytics Consulting specializes in research and analytics for the fresh produce industry. The firm examines data along the supply chain — from grower-shipper and importer, to retailer and association — to offer tools and services that enhance the understanding of consumer behaviors, produce trends and market pricing.

This updated fourth edition provides a perspective for produce buyers, produce sellers, logistics managers and freight carriers.
