Production in Mexico will be up 15% this season for Bakersfield, Calif.-based Grapeman Farms, said Jared Lane, vice president of marketing.

The company has added acreage to produce newer, high-flavor varieties including Candy Snap, Sweet Globe, Jack’s Salute, Early Sweet, Timpson and Great Green.

Lane expects the season to begin around May 5, which will be a return to a normal start date.

“The last couple of years, the season has started later, which has given us less time to market the crop,” he said. “This year, it should be a little more normal, so it gives us more time to sell the fruit.”

Grapeman Farms should have a nice crop this season, he said.

“The bunch count looks good, and the quality looks good.”
