The New Jersey Department of Agriculture plans to help growers from the Garden State by promoting its Jersey Fresh program through a diverse media mix this season.

Miami-based Goldenberry Farms began introducing tropical berries to the U.S. market in 2021, and demand has been increasing for its namesake berries since then, says Christopher Palumbo, brand director.

Beyond seasonal: “Southern Hemisphere produce enables consumers to enjoy the great taste and health benefits of citrus throughout the summer and into the fall,” said Karen Brux of the Chilean Fresh Fruit Association.

AppHarvest has surpassed its first quarter target with net sales of $13 million and has shipped commercially for first time from a full four-farm network.

“If you raise 200 bu. corn with a CI score of 0, that’s $1.57 per bushel and an extra $314 in value. Now, the ethanol plant isn’t expected to share 100%, but it could be 25% to 30%,” says Paul Neiffer, a farm CPA.

The association says that Lynsee Gibbons, who will start May 23, has a background in food advocacy work that will help advance its goals.

Chapdelaine, the president of berry operations at Star Produce, has worked in the industry for more than 25 years. He will lead the Canadian Produce Marketing Association board of directors through 2024.

Move over, mushrooms: Meatballs, tacos and Bolognese can all be plant-based using walnut protein. And some social media influencers, as well as fruit and cheese brands, are chipping in to promote these nuts.

The USDA reports that the gains in retail per capita consumption for berries have been very strong compared with many other fresh fruits.
