The California Avocado Commission is helping retailers plan for Memorial Day sales, which is in the top four seasonal events for the fruit.
Due to lower production, the commission’s custom marketing plans focus on retailers in California and the western U.S. Those plans include sales and display contests, social and digital programs, in-store activations and online sweepstakes, according to a news release from the commission.
“Memorial Day is a time to honor those who lost their lives serving our country and it is a time of American pride,” Jan DeLyser, the commission’s vice president of marketing, said in the release. “For many produce departments, it is also the unofficial kick-off of summer merchandising.”
As Memorial Day (May 27) approaches, the California Avocado Commission will share grilling and seasonal recipe contests through bloggers and social media, according to the release. Featured recipes include Charred California Avocado with Pistachio Gremolata and Crispy Pork Cutlets with California Avocado and Arugula Salad, according to the release.
In April, Alyssa Gagarin from Meal Prep Chef created Farmer’s Market Avocado Carpaccio recipe that uses six fresh produce items, and Yummy Healthy Easy’s Jen Nikolaus developed Grilled Cobb Salad with Avocado Dressing.
