During May, National Burger Month, the Mushroom Council is partnering with Bon Appétit to kick off the Blended Burger Project: Home Edition competition.

The contest encourages people to create blended burgers — a mix of protein and mushrooms — at home for a chance to win $10,000, according to a news release.

The second annual competition, which started May 5, calls on consumers to create a custom burger featuring at least 25% finely chopped, fresh mushrooms blended into the burger patty with meat or meat substitutes.

Besides using social media, websites and the print magazine, the council will provide members with on-pack and in-store promotional materials to raise awareness about the contest.

Participants can enter through June 30 by submitting a burger recipe, description and image on the contest page on Bon Appétit’s website. They can also use the hashtag #BlendedBurgerContest for a chance to win smaller prizes.

Bon Appétit editor Chris Morocco will test three finalists’ entries for taste and usability in his home kitchen, speaking to each of the finalists live on video chat. Morocco will choose the winner.

Bon Appétit will create a finale video for social and digital channels.
