Capital City Fruit, Norwalk, Iowa, continues its donation program, recently donating 135 watermelons to area charities.

The melons went to Youth Emergency Shelter and Services, Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army and Catholic Charities of the Des Moines metro area, according to a news release. In the past eight years, the company has donated 4.3 million pounds of food to Des Moines organizations.

We definitely appreciate the partnership we have with Capital City Fruit,” Jenny Kerger, family services director at Salvation Army Des Moines, said in the release. “We’ve been working with them for years and it is so nice that they can provide the community with produce that’s usually quite expensive.”
