Santa Paula, Calif.-based Limoneira Co. has a new consumer app called Nature’s Pharmacy.

The app points shoppers to fruits and vegetables that can help solve healthcare issues they may be dealing with, according to a news release.

“At Limoniera, we know that good health and maintaining balance continues to be important to all of us, and that produce and citrus can be critical to this balance,” Harold Edwards, president and CEO of Limoneria, said in the release. “We understand that people are busy and looking for solutions that are easy to incorporate into their busy lives, and the Nature’s Pharmacy app does just that.”

Limomeira links more than four dozen health concerns or desired outcomes with 74 fruits and vegetables that contain 12 essential vitamins and 11 essential minerals that can improve health.
When consumers select a concern or outcome, the app generates the names of fruits and vegetables that can help consumers achieve health goals, according to the release.

The app is one of several educational initiatives that make up Limoneira’s new Take a Healthy Stand platform, which seeks to teach how citrus and produce can play a helpful role in improving poor health and boosting personal appearance and wellbeing. The program is aided by consumer messaging supported by research by the Institute of National Health and other objective organizations, according to the release.

“Nature’s Pharmacy and Take a Healthy Stand are important components of the Food as Medicine movement taking hold nationwide,” Megan Roosevelt, a Limoneira nutritionist and founder of Healthy Grocery Girl, said in the release, “Food as Medicine maintains that fresh, healthy produce such as lemons can help avoid an expensive and perhaps less effective trip to the grocery department’s supplement aisle.”

The app was announced Oct. 17 at the Produce Marketing Association’s Fresh Start event, a multi-day program sponsored by Limoneira and hosted at the Limoneira Ranch.

The release said Nature’s Pharmacy app can be found on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
