The Falls Church, Va.-based U.S. Apple Association is launching its 2018-19 Apples4Ed grant program for schools.
With the program, U.S. Apple will fund five $4,000 healthy snacking initiatives on campuses in 2019, according to a news release.
“October is National Apple Month, which is the perfect time during peak harvest and a fresh start to the school year to encourage healthy snacking habits,” U.S. Apple President and CEO Jim Bair said in the release. “Apples4Ed offers schools the opportunity to implement healthy snacking initiatives that support the needs of their unique students and communities. This year we hope to foster conversations among students about how making healthy eating choices now can lead to long-term success academically and in other areas of their lives.”
Applications for the Apples4Ed grants are available at Apples4Ed.com, according to the release.
Public schools with students enrolled in any grade from Kindergarten through 12th are eligible to apply. Applications are due by the end of December. Winners will be selected in February and announced in March and April of 2019.
U.S. Apple is continuing its partnership with the School Nutrition Association and the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture on the Apples4Ed program, according to the release.
