Koru apple slices pair with PB&J for charity

Three companies teamed up to donate 500 Koru apples for a chef-tasting event that benefitted St. Joseph’s Center in Culver City, Calif.

Three companies teamed up to donate 500 Koru apples for a chef-tasting event that benefitted St. Joseph’s Center in Culver City, Calif.

Wenatchee, Wash.-based Starr Ranch Growers, Chelan, Wash.-based Chelan Fresh Marketing and Glenmont, N.Y.-based New York Apple Sales Inc. partnered to give apples to Taste of St. Joseph’s on Feb. 28, according to a news release.

The center provides outreach, housing, education and vocational services to empower low-income and homeless Californians to achieve self-sufficiency. Event proceeds will support the center’s culinary training program.

Los Angeles-based Spread The Love Foods also donated nut butters and jams to go with slices of Koru apples in the sandwiches. Among the area’s top restaurant chef offerings, the sandwiches did well, spurring attendees to return for seconds, and even thirds, according to the release.

About 200 of the apples were sliced for the sandwiches, and 300 went to the center’s food pantry.
