Vandervoet & Associates Inc. will have valencia oranges from northwest Mexico for the first time this year, starting with early varieties in January and then regular valencias in late winter/early spring.

Vandervoet & Associates Inc., Rio Rico, Ariz., will have valencia oranges from northwest Mexico for the first time this year, starting with early varieties in January and then regular valencias in late winter/early spring, said Scott Vandervoet, salesman.

Last year was a tough one for oranges because California growers kept their navels in the domestic market after losing a portion of their market access to Asia because of the Chinese tariffs, he said. “It was a difficult marketing deal for anybody who had oranges last winter and spring,” Vandervoet said.

It was unclear how that deal will shape up this season.

“I don’t know if we should expect anything different this time around,” he said.
