BrightFarms recalls supplier-grown spinach, salad kits due to possible listeria contamination
BrightFarms said in a news release that it issued a voluntary recall of spinach grown by its supplier Element Farms in its Pompton Plains, N.J., farm and distributed under the BrightFarms brand. The company said it put this recall in place after a routine sampling by Element Farms yielded a positive result for Listeria monocytogenes.
BrightFarms recalled a limited quantity of salad kits and spinach due to the potential for cross-contamination at its Selinsgrove, Pa., facility.
The company recalled baby spinach, Mediterranean Crunch Kit, Chickpea Caesar Crunch Kit, Bacon Ranch Crunch Kit and Southwestern Chipotle Crunch Kit. The company distributed these kits to retailers in seven states including Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia, according to the release.
The company said it has not learned of any positive test results or reported illnesses as a part of this recall.
