AFM guac contest to provide financial support for chefs

Avocados From Mexico recently launched the Guac & Beyond Chef Contest as a way to offer some financial help to foodservice professionals affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The first 365 chefs to submit their ideas for “year-round guacamole (and beyond)” — whether in salads, sandwiches or other applications — will have their ideas reviewed by AFM. The organization will then choose the top 100 entries and send those chefs $100 for groceries. Then AFM will ask those top 100 chefs to send written recipes and high-quality photos of their ideas. When the chefs submit those additional materials, they will receive an additional $100, according to a news release.

Out of the top 100 entries, three grand prizes will be awarded: $5,000 for first place, $2,500 for second place and $1,000 for third place. Chefs can promote their entries on social media using the hashtag #AFMGuacAndBeyondContest.

“The contest was designed to provide immediate support to chefs who have been personally impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic,” David Spirito, senior director of culinary and foodservice for AFM, said in the release. “Our hearts are with the many foodservice professionals out of work, and since they’ve been a key to AFM’s success, we wanted to step up and help during this challenging time.”
