Ever dance with a Guac Bot? A look at Avocados From Mexico’s House of Goodness at SXSW
AUSTIN, Texas — Bold. Outlandish. Extra. The common is transformed into extraordinary and then sprinkled with glitter at SXSW. And at this year’s SXSW (South by Southwest) conference, even the humble avocado became larger than life.
On March 13-14, attendees and spectators lined up under a giant, lime green avocado outside of popular Austin bar, Lustre Pearl. For several days in March, the Rainey Street bar was converted into an over-the-top pop-up event hosted by Avocados From Mexico that was one part music festival, one part avant-garde art installation.
If you weren’t there for the music or the fresh produce, the avocado margaritas, tacos and cupcakes didn't hurt either. Taking in the entire Avocados From Mexico activation touched all five senses.
Thrumming live music washed over the crowd as they waited to join the party, entering through the House of Goodness, an experiential, avocado-themed house.
Enter the House of Goodness
Inside, each element and feature of the house exuded lime green. Participants could get their fortune read by and dance with the "Guac Bot" robot, try on avocado-themed clothes, get a high-tech glow up, explore an avocado-themed virtual reality and take in the scene from the vantage of an avocado-styled lounge chair.
Inside the House of Goodness, participants could interact with shoppable recipe content in the kitchen, along with an interactive garage sale where garage sale buyers compete to take home a piece of the House of Goodness decor by earning the most likes and shares for each item.
The House of Goodness was jam-packed with games and interactive experiences.
