Mission Produce, which recently began offering small avocados in 2-pound bags, is expanding the Minis brand to include organic avocados.

Each bag contains 8-10 avocados that weigh about 3.5 ounces each, making it an ideal single-serving size.

“This Organic Minis bag holds true to our initiative to efficiently sell what the tree produces,” Brent Scattini, Mission’s vice president of sales and marketing, said in a news release. “By creating this package for small organic fruit, it gives us the opportunity to develop a retail organic bag that addresses a consumer need while optimizing our fruit utilization from the tree.”

Small organic avocados typically are sold in bulk to foodservice customers, but recent healthful eating trends have increased demand for lower-calorie snacks, said Megan Berenbach, organic category manager for Mission.

“Our Organic Minis bag adds to the options that we can present to our retail customer base,” she said in the release.

The organic avocados currently come from Mexico and California, with Peruvian supplies added in the summer. The bags come with the American Heart Association’s Heart Check certification.
