Giro Pack adds business development and sustainability manager

Ignacio Marroquin will support the company in new opportunities for sales growth and in implementing Giro Pack’s sustainability initiatives.

Giro Pack Inc., a subsidiary of Giro Group in the U.S. and Canadian markets, has named Ignacio Marroquin as business development and sustainability manager.

While based in Atlanta, Marroquin will support the company in new opportunities for sales growth and in implementing Giro Pack’s sustainability initiatives in alignment with Giro Group, according to a news release.

Marroquin has been employed with Giro Headquarters in Spain since March 2015. He started his tenure as an assistant business manager and was promoted to senior consumables business manager due to his demonstrated merits, technical knowledge and his dedication to improve team performance, said Marcelo Ferrer, country manager for Giro Pack Inc.

“His skills in leveraging talent for creating and implementing business development initiatives has brought substantial revenue growth and profit margin improvement to Giro,” Ferrer said in the release. “We are excited to have Ignacio on the team, and we will use his strong knowledge of Giro’s portfolio to support our customers and promote sustainable growth for Giro.”

Marroquin holds a double bachelor’s degree in law and business management, as well as a master’s degree in business administration, both from Universitat Autonoma of Barcelona.

“We decided to create a new position in Giro Pack Inc. providing technical and commercial leadership and expertise to improve our internal processes as well as how we answer to customer needs,” Ferrer said. “Ignacio has an extensive background in business management, marketing and sales with a previous managerial seniority and exposure to Giro’s processes and procedures that will help the operations of the U.S. entity.”

Marroquin said he is excited for the opportunity to join Giro Pack Inc.

“The moment we are living in, with producers, retailers and consumers asking for alternatives to plastic packaging, fits nicely with my recent experience launching our plastic-free bags, made with cellulose materials, in Europe, and I look forward to applying what we learned in many markets like France, Germany and Spain to the U.S. and Canadian markets,” Marroquin said in the release.

“With Ignacio’s leadership and expertise, I see an opportunity for Giro to expand our packaging systems to other commodities outside of the traditional ones — citrus, avocados and onions,” Ferrer said. “For example, we have a large presence in bagged potatoes in Europe, and we see the opportunity to replicate that success here in the U.S. and Canada.”
