The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service said it expanded a quarantine for huanglongbing, or citrus greening, in California.
APHIS said, in cooperation with the California Department of Food and Agriculture, it added 85 square miles to include the Mission Viejo area in Orange County.
The agency said it detected citrus greening in plant tissue samples from residential properties in Los Angeles County. The quarantine area impacts about 0.4 acres of commercial citrus.
The quarantine restricts the movement of regulated articles from the quarantine areas to prevent the spread of HLB to non-infested areas in the state and U.S., according to APHIS.
