The Coachella Valley and Palm Springs area is known for resorts, golfing, music festivals and other recreational past times.

Attendees at The Packer’s West Coast Produce Expo will learn about another facet of the area: a prime produce growing region.

The expo kicks off Friday, May 11 with farm tours, celebrating the area’s agricultural industry that benefits from sunny skies and warm weather.

North Shore Living, one of the stops on tours, has been in business for 30 years, and supplies living herbs and microgreens to retailers. The company has 10 acres of hydroponic greenhouses.

“The West Coast Produce Expo is a great event,” North Shore marketing manager Chris Wada said in a news release. “Starting with the farm-field tours, we get to highlight our state-of-the-art greenhouses, sustainable growing methods, host special events and of course, spend time catching up with the produce industry, all in our backyard.”

Other stops on the tours are:

  • Prime Time International
  • Double Date Packing
  • Richard Bagdasarian

The tours are from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
