Millennials Eat — Bananas!

Staff writer Ashley Nickle and copy editor and designer Amelia Freidline discuss the produce age gap for bananas.

Fresh Trends consumer research indicates that 64% of millennials surveyed bought bananas at a grocery store in the last 12 months, while 80% or more of people in the older age groups did so.

Amelia and Ashley discuss what some of the factors are in those numbers, some innovative uses for the fruit, and the amusing difference in banana recipes now and when their parents were kids.

This new video series aims to bridge produce age gaps by providing insight on where those gaps are, what some of the barriers to consumption might be, and ideas to get around them. You can find the introductory episode here, a conversation on radishes here, a conversation on carrots here and a conversation about cantaloupes here.

For more on the produce age gap, check out this column by editor Greg Johnson, who examines the trend of millennials shopping at grocery stores and buying numerous produce items at noticeably lower rates than older generations.
