At United Fresh LIVE!, Sunkist Growers is sharing a sneak peek of the interactive “Sunkist Island,” a simulated orange grove experience that will be promoted in select export markets.

“Sunkist Island” will be in the Animal Crossing: New Horizons virtual world. The popular video game is one of the best sellers of 2020, according to a news release from Sunkist, with more than 13 million registered users since its March release.

“While we may all be physically apart, Sunkist is looking to bring people together virtually to share moments, share memories, and enjoy the sense of community that is fundamental to our brand and how we grow,” Christina Ward, director of global brand marketing, said in the release.

Visitors to the virtual citrus grove will learn about in-season Valencia oranges, participate in a scavenger hunt and visit a store with custom apparel.

“With everything going virtual these days, we are welcoming visitors to explore our sunny California groves in Animal Crossing from the comfort of their own homes,” Ward said in the release. “The fun virtual space fosters a sense of sharing, which is fundamental to our brand and cooperative, and is a fun way to educate consumers on California-grown Valencia oranges.”

Sunkist recently launched ready-to-go summer citrus programs with point-of-sale, merchandising and marketing materials, and display bins.
